Gaffney’s group claims that this may not be a problem since Ismailis may be “good Muslims” (progressive, persecuted by Saudi Arabia, etc.) while Geller and her ilk are having none of it (“Assasins” “Taqiyya”).

Her attorney has admitted she has made mistakes, but is maintaining that her allegations against Mr. Strauss-Kahn are true and that her version of what happened has remained consistent.

In terms of mainstream American politics these people are all relatively fringe players regardless of which side they took on such issues, but I do think the continuing dynamics of the relationship between the progressive/radical left and the Muslim community as the Arab spring continues and events progress in the Muslim world. When it has come to the antiwar positions backed by most American Muslims with regard to Afghanistan and Iraq and some of the human rights concerns here domestically, the far left has been about the only consistent ally the community has had.

As the bombings took place in Sistan-Balochistan province, suspicion will turn towards Jundallah, a Balochi Sunni insurgent movement whose founder Abdolmalek Rigi, was captured by Iran and executed last month.

Rigi had appeared in a televised confession indicating that he received offers of financial and military aid from the U.S. Other media reports have confirmed that the US has given encouragement and advice to the group in the past, but US has always denied support to the group. Iran has also accused the group of being affiliated with AlQaeda, which as far as I know the group has denied.
